Pest Management

Pest Management

Every defense system starts with the need to know the enemy. A risk assessment identifies the potential pests, the level of risk and it aids the specialist to design the pest management system. Insects, rodents, birds and reptiles are on target and the system performance is constantly monitored towards improvement.

Well trained professionals find the root cause of each problem and eradicate it. Modern methods are applied, combining new technologies with registered biocides.

The basic steps include:

  • Identify the damage and the responsible pest.
  • Find the pest life cycle and biology.
  • Monitor the environment for the pest population.
  • Establish an action threshold
  • Design the strategy using appropriate combination of management tactics.
  • Evaluate results.

Wood boring insect treatment

Termites and woodworms are wood-eating insects that are harmful as they puncture furniture woods, tree trunks, wooden floors, timber, and more. In Greece, the problem is very common and AgroSpeCom uses all methods available, combining new technologies with registered biocides.

The basic steps include:

  1. Identify the wood boring insect
  2. Design a strategy
  3. Solve the challenge

The most effective treatment is the heat treatment as heat penetrates in the wood center and can find the insects everywhere in a construction.

Bed bug treatment

Bed bugs are blood drinking insects of the species Hemiptera and family Cimicidae. The most commonly found bed bugs are Cimex lectularius και Cimex hemipterus.
Treatment options include contact insecticides, fumigants and heat. The most effective and quick treatment is with heat as it penetrates furniture and linens, killing the insects anywhere in a room in a few hours, leaving the room safe for use.
Apart of treatments and room inspections, AgroSpeCom offers training on bed bug management.

Spraying and fogging

Contact insecticide is a poison that kills on contact, rather than after ingestion or absorption. Contact insecticides penetrate the skin of the pest and are used against most insects. These insecticides are applied through spraying and fogging. Fogging is a technique used for killing insects that involves using a fine pesticide spray which is directed by a blower. In some cases, a hot vapour may be used to carry the spray and keep it airborne for longer. Fast-acting pesticides like pyrethroids are typically used.

Snake management

Snakes and other reptiles are cold-blooded and their body temperature is similar to that of the environment. They become inactive during the cold months but due to climate change, the last years, reptiles remain active all around the year in Greece.
Snake repellents are used to keep them away from areas where people live. The application of reptile repellents shall be repeated every 3 months, even in the wintertime.

Mites management

People may be allergic to house dust mite cast, skins and droppings. The reactions include a respiratory constriction, a common symptom of asthma. Itchy, watery eyes may also be symptoms. Most of asthmatics may have symptoms due to house dust mites.

The mites are nearly impossible to see without magnification and they feed on dead skin shed by humans as well as other protein materials.

Mite treatment options include contact miticides, fumigants and heat.

A thorough inspection of every case leads to the selection of the most appropriate method.

Bird management

Bird infestation can result in property damage, product contamination and disease. Birds are challenging and often require a combination of control, exclusion and sanitation methods. The most effective method to keep the birds away is by installing nets and closing small openings. Other tools against birds include predator decoys, bird gels, sound and ultrasonic devices. AgroSpeCom can help you turn a dirty and ugly balcony into a clean and nice area. A dirty and unsafe reception ramp to a clean and tidy food level area.

AgroSpeCom will conduct an analysis of your site to assess bird activity and prescribe appropriate solutions.

Organic pest treatment

Pest management in organic systems basically relies on preventing pest problems from becoming economically damaging. Preventive measures include pest proof buildings, thorough inspection of incoming materials, buying from approved suppliers etc. The next step after prevention is pest population monitoring.

UV fly killers, pheromone traps and rodent traps are tools accepted in organic premises. When prevention fails, the management of established pests can be done with very few methods like low oxygen treatment, heat treatment, diatomaceous earth and the use of organic contact insecticides.
